Moving Tips

When you move, you take more than your belongings. Here are a few things to remember when you're relocating.

  • If you have children, discuss the move with them. Take them with you on house-hunting trips.  Let them take familiar toys with them during the move. 

  • Notify Church and civic organizations. Ask that a letter of introduction be sent to the clergyman, and transfer civic affiliations. 

  • Arrange to have your doctor, dentist, school administrators, and other professionals transfer your records.

  • Obtain prescriptions and emergency medical records.

  • Notify your post office, insurance companies, credit accounts, banks, and publications of change of address.

 

Things To Remember To Do When You Move

  • Discontinue your local delivery services.

  • Inform utilities of your leaving.  Arrange for disconnects.  Ask for your final bill.

  • Arrange for utility services in your new area to begin.

  • Check insurance coverage on goods entrusted to movers and on valuable items you will transport.

  • Have extra cash, personal checks, and traveler's checks on hand with you during your move.

  • Determine how you are going to pay the moving company when you arrive.

  • Make sure your inventory of household goods is accurate to number of items, conditions, etc.

  • Give the moving company contact information for where you can be reached during the move.
